Twice a year, my church has General Conference. We get to hear from prophets and apostles and be spiritually enlightened. Growing up it was a awesome to get to watch church on TV on the couch and snooze a little. Not anymore! Glad to say I've matured at least a little bit. Now that I live here in Utah it is so wonderful to get to be there in person.
I got to go to three sessions, Saturday afternoon, and then the two Sunday sessions. The MTC choir was fantastic. For my non-LDS friends, the Missionary Training Center is exactly that, where missionaries go to learn their language, how to teach the gospel, etc. I saw so many boys that I knew in the choir and it made me so happy. David Archuleta was in the choir, he just went into the MTC on Wednesday but I guess they made an exception for him. Ahhh that is one crush that will never die. Even if he's smaller than me.
Anyways they sang "Called to Serve" which is one of my favorite hymns but especially to hear these missionaries to have been called by Heavenly Father to spread the good news throughout the world was so powerful. It brought tears to my eyes and made me even more excited to one day get out there and preach the Gospel and serve others on my mission.
Pretty Salt Lake temple! The weather on Saturday was so nice and then it was snowing on Sunday so I didn't take any pictures. Overall such a lovely experience. I missed Jen a lot, I can't wait to go with her next October! :)
The quotes might not be verbatim. Those not in quotation marks are just the idea that they talked about. Some of my favorite parts of conference:
"Be kind, it's a happy way to live!" -Elder Jeffrey R. Holland
The moment we judge others is the moment that we condemn ourselves. God is qualified to judge, we are not. -President Dieter F. Uchtdorf
"Family is the most important social unit in time and eternity." -Elder Russel M. Nelson
Perceptions of right and wrong are constantly changing in the world. The church can be an anchor and a beacon. Living the Gospel leads away from filth. None of us will ever be so lost that we cannot make our way back home. -Elder M. Russel Ballard
"All things are possible to him who believes. Discipleship is believing in Him though times of peace and times of difficulties." -Elder Neil L. Anderson
Homes should be filled with love and courtesy. -President Thomas S. Monson
Also earlier this week I was having a particularly rough day and Sydney could sense that and she went and brought me this pretty flower. It was so sweet and unexpected. Everyday I feel happy that we get to live together next year too.
